Assumptions: contributions at the start of each year; 20% basic CESG up to $500/year, with unused room carried forward (max $1,000/year) and $7,200 lifetime, paid until the end of the year the child turns 17; $50,000 lifetime contribution limit. The additional CESG, Canada Learning Bond and provincial grants (e.g. Quebec's QESI, BC's BCTESG) are not included. Grant rules as of NorthWorth's latest update and may change.

How the CESG works

The federal government adds 20% to the first $2,500 you contribute each year to a child's RESP — up to $500 a year. If you missed years, unused grant room carries forward, and you can catch up by up to $1,000 of grant per year (on a $5,000 contribution). Each child can receive up to $7,200 in basic CESG over their lifetime.
